UK GEAR is NATO Worthy........ Footwear Plus

>>05 September 2006

UK Gear, the first company to design and develop commercial product in association with the British Army, has moved up in ranks so to speak, with the recent seal of approval by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) for its trail runner, the XC-09.

The XC-09 is designed to meet the demands of some of the toughest runners and withstand the hardest conditions in the world, according to Todd Johnson, President & CEO of the US devision of UK Gear in San Diago, CA. The shoe features abrasion-resistant materials with a tough, breathable upper and a highly durable outsole with deep traction lugs for grip in muddy, off-road conditions.

"The highly-abrasive materials for off-road-running prevent hazards like thorns from penetrating the shoe" describes Johnson.

UK Gear's patented Bio-Flex technology anatomically aligns the grooves to improve the gait cycle and a Duomass second density midsole improves stability during the gait cycle.

Additional features include an antimicrobial treated inner lining, a padded tongue and a Solite EVA removable sock liner for extra cushioning. The first installment of the shoe is available in a Black and Silver combination for both men and women. Distribution includes military bases and speciality running stores.

Johnson, in part, credits word of mouth for the NATO seal of approval. Like with the launch of UK Gear's first British Army-endorsed running shoe the PT-03. British soliders serving in Iraq and Afghanistan raved about how well it performed and swapped with American soliders. Soon after, word spread to civilians who began buying the shoes direct through UK Gear's website. In the case of the XC-09, the shoe was first designed exclusively for the German military, but it wasnt long before word got out and the shoe gained NATO seal of approval. The XC-09 bears the UK Gear logo and the German flag.
